Iranian ‘Starvation’ to go on screen at Middle East Now

Iranian animation ‘Starvation’ is to go on screen at the 2020 Middle East Now festival in Italy.

Iranian animation ‘Starvation’ has been selected to go on screen at the 2020 Middle East Now (Festival of Cinema and Contemporary Culture on the Middle East) in Italy.

Directed by Zahra Rostampour, the 7-minute animated piece offers a different point of view of the wolf as a villain in fairytale stories.

A hungry wolf gets stuck in stereotypes about being the big bad wolf of the story. She has to flee when everybody accuses her of violence and murder. She faces the danger of getting killed.

‘Starvation’ has so far gone on screen at a number of global events, including the 19th Monstra Lisbon Animated Film Festival in Portugal, the 14th Athens Animfest in Greece, and the 7th DC Web Fest, the 2019 Queens World Film Festival, the 2019 Annecy Int’l Animation Film Festival in France, as well as the 28th Arizona Int’l Film Festival, the 2019 East Northeast Int’l Film Festival, and the 28th Annual Whitaker St. Louis Int’l Film Festival, all in the US.

The animation has also won awards such as Best Film award at Short Competition section of the December 2018 Independent Talents International Film Festival.

“The Middle East Now festival is organized by MAP OF CREATION, a non-profit cultural association based in Florence which is active in producing documentary films and hosting cultural events”, according to the official website of the festival.

The 2020 edition of the event is slated for October 6-11.
